Training Course in Applied Econometric Analysis for Young Economists/Researchers in Uzbekistan organized by IFPRI and WIUT

On December 10-20, 2024, the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and Westminster International University in Tashkent (WIUT) will organize a Training Course on Applied Econometric Analysis. The aim of the Training Course is to strengthen the capacity of young economists/researchers in Uzbekistan for quantitative research, economic policy analysis, and, in particular, for econometric analysis of socioeconomic phenomena in the context of agri-food sector development.

The main objective of the training course is to strengthen the capacity of young researchers to conduct credible and transparent applied policy research and impact assessments in the agri-food sector and related fields. Accordingly, the course's emphasis will be on empirical applications with a focus on detecting causality in empirical data. In particular, the course will teach participants how to
  • Design high-quality policy research and construct research questions
  • Analyze socioeconomic data to produce statistically adequate models
  • Check the validity of the statistical assumptions underlying the model, using the sample data itself and revising the model specification as needed
  • Properly formulate the main causal relationship of interest and choose a plausible identification strategy
  • Interpret and use the main analytical findings in applied policy analysis and develop policy recommendations
The Training Course will be held at WIUT premises in Tashkent, with sessions combining applied and empirical analyses using advanced statistical packages such as Stata and R. The course lectures will be accompanied with practical hands-on learning exercises using real-world data from various sources. IFPRI senior researchers and WIUT faculty members with experience in modern applied research in economics and agri-food sector development will conduct the training course. The training course will be held in English language.
